When referring to people in St John Ambulance, we no longer use the word ‘members’.

The preferred phrase is ‘volunteers and employees’ (rather than ‘volunteers and staff’ or ‘members’). A shorter way of referring to a mix of volunteers and employees when out ‘on duty’ (the people staffing an event, for example) is ‘personnel’.

Avoid using both the ‘pence’ and pound signs together. For example, a pound and ten pence would be expressed as ‘£1.10’ rather than ‘£1.10p’.

For figures of 1,000 and over, add a comma before the zeros.
